Men's 3s - 23/24 Season Review

Men's 3rd XI – CAPTAIN – SIMON LUNN

Record after 21 games: W7 D2 L12 – F 48 A 57 Points 23 Position: 9th

The 2023/24 season began with the 3rd team looking to maintain their position in Division 8 North West.

(At the time of writing we’re 1point clear of the expected 3 relegation places with 1 game left. We need to match Stafford 3rds result to guarantee safety.)

The team have played some excellent quality hockey throughout the season. I would like to thank everyone who played and supported us on the sidelines. I would like to thank all the umpires who have made it possible for us to enjoy our Saturday afternoons. Enjoy umpiring retirement Obi.

This season has been a roller-coaster with some notable highs and tough days at the office. The youngsters continued to improve and are a credit to the efforts of our junior section. We lost several players to the second team. (I believe they were enticed by the bright lights and away trips in the A-Team van.) We gained Luca “Ice Pack” New and Adam “not before 12” McCord. Two genuine clubmen. 

In goal “Our Jack” has continued to develop with moments of pure brilliance. WE LOVE YOU! Thomas Langley has forced his way into the team with consistently good performances since his debut against Old Wulfs. 

We’ve beaten the league leaders away, “Ice Pack” will tell you all about that game! We’ve also had some tough Saturdays during the season, this has built up our resilience and has kept us going all season. Shabba (Debut season) has provided the majority of our goals ably supported by Bessey, O’brien and Foster. 

Aadam Oates & Joe Law have defended for their lives all season. Tom “NHS” Scott and Joe Perkins were solid in defence. Williams, Bessey and Msipa ran and ran. Waltham and Oates played entertaining cameos.

For the last three seasons it has been an honour and a privilege to be 3rd team captain. Time has come to pass on the armband. I hope my lasting legacy will Samosas for teas!
